History of Country Music

Our History

Howdy Folks! I'm Rodney Redneck.  Now, ya'll heard that everyone's got a story.  Well, I got one too.  And, if ya'll come closer, I'll tell you my story.

Like I said, my name's Rodney Redneck, but I'm not just any old redneck.  I was born in the mind of Roger Allen, a West Virginy coal miner's son.  Now, I heerd that folks around Abney, West Virginia says that Roger's always been a lil' strange, and one day he took off  for California 'cause he heard that's where all the gold is.  He packed up his guitar, his pack of songs and got in his old Chevy and headed west, no job, no money, and no idea what he was gonna do when he got there.

He started workin' in bars playin' country music and singin' fer his supper.  Well, Roger got kinda popular out there and eventually started his own TV show.  Well, ol' Rog was hangin' 'round with the country music folks when I popped into his mind.  One day when he was out with one of his redneck, motorcycle ridin' buddies Ray Nelson creator of the Guitcycle (that's right, you heard me...a guitar that you can ride), he decided that a line of redneck teeshirts, hats, and other assorted junk was what the world really needed to make them happy.

He sat there that night on the stage and drew me in his mind - me and all my kin, Redneck Mama, Redneck Fisherman, Redneck Trucker (my uncle), and the rest of the redneck bunch.  There's 27 of us at the last count.  There was no stopping Roger now.  He went to an artist named Larsen, and described me to him and Larsen drew me.  Well, Roger (who cain't draw a lick) and Bob Larsen co-laborated until I was created.  Roger (that crazy ol' hillbilly folks said) opened a company called Redneck Products and started selling me across the United States.  Since those early days in the 1980s, Roger has gotten hitched.  He married an artist (what's the odds of him findin' an artist/wife), and she is continuin' my family tree.  She has added Lil' Redneck Girl (Polly Mae) and Lil' Redneck Boy (Junior).  Now, we have a line of children's clothes.  She's got some other redneck cousins in mind, so keep watching Redneck Products, and ya'll see how big the family gits.

Now, I looked up Redneck in the dictionary that my cousin Cletus has in his trailer.  It says that the definition of a redneck is "a poor, white southern farmer or sharecropper."  Ya'll see, I thought I'd mention this 'cause we ain't makin' no political or social statements with our Redneck Family.  We was created for fun!
