Redneck Limo Captain’s Log Excerpts

Nashville Here We Come!

Bringing class to the Opryland Hotel

After we had a nice visit with the folks at the National Institutes of Health, we decided to make a side trip to Nashville. Now, if'n ya read the History of Redneck Products, you know that Punkin' is a country music musician. And, being a musician, he loves Nashville.

The first place we visited in Nashville was the Opryland Hotel. We pulled The Redneck Limo up to the front door of the place where they have the Valet Parking. We wasn't sure what a Valet was or why they had a special place to park them. Punkin' who used to be a used car salesman said he's heard of a Valiant and a Volvo, but he ain't ever heard of a Valet. Anyway, we pulled up to the front of the hotel, looked for the special Valet Parking and didn't see anything, so we just sat there for a minute or two trying to figure the whole thing out. While we was sittin' there trying to site some of them cars they call Valets, this young feller came up to the door and knocked on it. I opened the door, and he asked us to give him our keys. Now, Punkin' ain't just goin' to give the Limo keys to anyone especially a stranger at a hotel, so we said, "Sorry, we cain't do that." He said, "Do y'all really have T-shirts? May I have one." Now, this young feller was a might forward first wanting the keys to the Limo then, a Redneck T-shirt, so we told him we were sorry, but we were out of T-shirts. We promised him one if he wrote to us on our website. Then, he said, are you staying at the hotel? Well, I had to chuckle at that one. Now, why would anyone stay at a big hotel that charges hundreds of dollars per night, when they can sleep in the hotel parking lot in The Redneck Limo. We do have one of them cellphones, so we can even call the hotel desk and ask for a wake-up call and room service. Ya just have to explain to them that they have to come out the back door to the hotel and direct them to the right parking spot.

When we were done visiting with this young feller, he told us to park the Limo in the big parking lot at the end of the driveway. He took my hand and helped me out of The Limo, and I waited fer Punkin' on the hotel's front porch. I think they call it a Portugal, portico, or something like that. When Punkin' finished parking, we went into the center of the hotel where they have a beautiful garden. What an awesome sight. It's the biggest garden I've ever seen. We sat on the bridge overlookin' the water and watched the fish swimmin' around. Punkin' handed out his cards to everyone that wanted to talk with us. We said "howdy" to everyone. We even knocked on the winder of the the WSM Radio DJ and handed him a card. He looked confused, but was really a nice feller. After enjoyin' the hotel for a few hours, we decided to cruise Broadway in The Limo. It was gettin' towards dark, and there were thousands of people crowded the street. We waved to them, and they yelled, laughed, and pointed at us. We went to a restaurant on Broadway to have a hamburger and french fries. In the restaurant, they had television screens on every wall playing what they called rock videos. There was people dancing around on the videos with nails and other hardward poked through their noses, ears, and who knows where else! I couldn't believe it. I was so busy staring at the videos I forgot about my hamburger.

After our night on the town, we headed to our parking space by the pool and got some sleep. The next morning, we visited The Country Music Hall of Fame. That was really interesting. They have a new hall of fame with all kinds of listening booths and films. I recommend it as one of the most important stops in Nashville.

Our last stop was The Earnest Tubb's Record Shop on Broadway. If you are ever in Nashville, drop in and say "hey" to the feller who runs the shop. He's an artist and has done a beautiful portrait of Earnest Tubbs. While we were there, we met Bucky Barrett. He played guitar for Roy Orbison for many years. He now has his own recording studio in Nashville. You can view his webpage and listen to some of his music at www.buckybarrett.com Don't miss the original record shop where you can sit and have a chat with musician, singers, artists, and other interesting people. Their record collection is outstanding.

Well, that's all fer now. I gotta git ready to add some new stuff to The Redneck Limo

Keep a-checkin' back fer more pages from my diary!
